The initial concept for this project was just for Winter, inspired by the Snowqueen’s crown in Snow White and the Huntsman. But this little baby grew into all four seasons. While challenging to say to least, it was an awesome task and simply delicious to play around with.
Astrid Bradley, was my magnificent Snow Queen, and boy did she set the standard and rock her session! I made a concoction of bicarb and shaving cream to create snow and we plastered Astrid’s hair and eyebrows with and came up with this insane snow look! I was so excited that it actually worked. Astrid, as fellow professional photographer, just knew what to do and needed very little direction. It was a blast photographing her. Melissa Whitehead sailed into Autumn, her sleek dark hair brought out the colors of her flowercrown and make-up. Melissa also shares a love for photography and was happy to spend extra time experimenting with double exposure. Jayde Bezuidenhout, and her glorious red hair, was my little Spring chicken and she did it all – from sunshine to rain to cold milk baths – with a smile on her face. Sarah Bank, with her long, blond, ‘mermaidy’ locks was Summer. Sarah was brilliant and so natural as a model, I loved how she created movement to the photos and braved those rocks!
No project gets done alone I can tell you that and none of this would have been possible without all the people involved. I had such a great amount of help with all four seasons. A very big THANK YOU must go to Kelly Meiring Make Up Artist. A talented make-up artists that always rises to the challenge of the outlandish make-up ideas that I throw her way. Kelly is not just a great make-up artist but also my little sister. It wonderful having another creative in the family that can share in the results of an amazing photo shoot.
The flower crowns for each shoot was done by Sunkissed Handmade. I showed Samantha my initial Winter Shoot crown concept and she has awesome ideas that I loved. As it all developed and the other three seasons reminded me that they too exist I added them onto my list of crowns to be made. I was amazed when I finally received them. Sunkissed Handmade blew me away. They arrived package so very carefully and couldn’t wait to get started.
And then to the fantastic Leoni, Kelly’s mom-in-law, a talented seamstress who made Summer, Winter and Autumn’s dresses. In such a short amount of time! I love these dresses and still have them hanging up in my office. Looking at them as I blog this shoot now. Thank you Leoni – you rock!
Well, here they are! Starting off with Spring since we’re heading that way #wink. Enjoy!
